"Walking for children who are the victims of abuse and their families is something we can do to raise awareness and to support our local Child Advocacy Centers in their critically important work."
-- First Lady Andrea Conte
Tennessee First Lady Andrea Conte, a longtime advocate for victims’ rights issues, launched AndreaWalks in 2004 to promote National Child Abuse Prevention Month and raise much-needed funds for Tennessee’s Child Advocacy Centers.
Child Advocacy Centers provide comprehensive support programs for children who are the victims of sexual or severe physical abuse and their families.
In the inaugural year of AndreaWalks, First Lady Conte walked more than 600 miles between all of the Child Advocacy Centers across the state and raised approximately $1.3 million in cash and in-kind donations for these organizations. In 2008, AndreaWalks IV includes events in Anderson, Scott, Davidson, Lincoln, Rutherford and Cannon Counties.
